General Information

Odyssey Montessori School is an independent, non-denominational school located in the Roncesvalles Village.

We offer an AMI affiliated Montessori program and are members of the CCMA (Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators). Odyssey Montessori School meets all the standards for providing an authentic Montessori program for children ranging in age from 2 ½ to 6 years old. The school operates from September to June with a summer camp offered during July

The school is subject to the regulations of the Day Nurseries Act which sets out requirements for class size, natural light requirement, and safety and teacher-student ratios. All our teachers hold an AMI Montessori Teaching diploma. The teaching assistants have been trained at the Foundation for Montessori Education

Class Size
We have three Casa Classrooms (primary). Each class consists of a mixed age group of children 2½ – 6 years old with a maximum of 24 children in the class. The school has a low student to teacher ratio. The third Casa Class has a maximum of 16 children.

French
Each classroom has a French speaking assistant who communicates in French with the children. This allows for a natural second language development.

Program
It is the school’s policy that all children attend the program five days per week. Children in their first or second year attend a morning or full day program. In the third year children turning five are required to attend a full day program. We do not accept children into the half day program that are enrolled in another program for half the day.

Hours of operation
The school is open from 8:00a.m – 5:30p.m.

Catered Lunch
Catered lunch is provided for full day and extended half day children. Real food for Real Kids provides a healthy, organically prepared, nutritious lunch for our children. For more information on the catering company please visit www.rfrk.com.

Environmentally friendly
At Odyssey Montessori School we are committed to providing a safe environment for children and staff. Chemicals in everyday cleaning products have been linked to various long term health problems…children are especially vulnerable. We use non-toxic, environmentally friendly cleaning products. www.icegree.ca

Parent Involvement
Parents and teachers have an important role in the child’s education. Each role is distinct and essential in providing experiences and opportunities from which the child can learn. To support the child’s education, foster this relationship between child, family and school, Odyssey Montessori School encourages parent involvement. Numerous opportunities are available for parents to participate in their child’s experience at school. Participation in parent education events, parent-teacher conferences, classroom observations and social gatherings creates an open channel of communication and understanding. This creates a partnership between parents and teachers who work together effectively to support the child’s development.
